Ecotrek Ballybunion is a unique personal guided tour with local historian and pipe player Danny Houlihan. Danny has vast local knowledge of the area and is a pleasure to listen to as he tells tales of ancient chiefs, local heroes and you can even have a go at playing the uilleann pipes!
He offers tours to small groups and ( upon appointment) individuals taking them around the stunning coastal scenery of Ballybunion in gorgeous Co Kerry. The trails are part of The Wild Atlantic Way – Possibly the wildest parts!!

Halloween Festival Loughrea Galway

Enjoy a Rustic Halloween Experience!

Slieve Aughty Centre, Kylebrack West, Loughrea, in association with CELT, Centre for Environmental Living & Training (national environmental charity) are hosting a Family Halloween Festival from Saturday 25th October to Sunday 2nd November.
There will be lots of spooky (and not so spooky!) things to do, including walks and pony rides along nature trails and into the Enchanted Forest, family games, Halloween arts and crafts, visit the small-animal farm, Best Costume competition, picnics, pizzas and more. Entry to the whole festival is just €5.
The Centre, set amongst woodlands in the scenic Slieve Aughty hills, has a range of quality accommodation including eco-lodges and en-suite rooms in The Three Towers Eco House & Organic Kitchen – ideal for a few days break!
On Sunday 26th October there is free entry and, as a fundraiser, CELT will run traditional skills workshops for kids making witches brooms, spooky skeleton faces and nightmare-catchers! (€2.50 per workshop / 3 workshops for €5). There will also be an exhibition of traditional crafts and a Rustic Raffle.
On Monday 27th from 1pm there is a charity horse and pony ride (in aid of CELT educational programme) suitable for all ages and experience including a lead-rein group, a walk-trot group, and a walk-canter group with the chance to jump cross-country. €10/pony, €20/horse. Registration starts at 1pm.
On Wednesday 29th October there is spooky Halloween crafts with Loughrea Craft Club and a walk and picnic in the Enchanted Forest. €25 per child, 5-10yrs. Booking is essential.
On Friday 31st October, 6pm – 10pm there will be spooky stories around the campfire, the Best Costume Competition (win an entry to the Christmas Festival), Halloween pony ride and outdoor clay-oven self-made pizzas! €10 per person.
On Saturday 1st November in the craft-room there is miniature-critter making using natural materials from the forest. This is included in your festival entry. Also, take an introductory lesson on a pony for just €10 per person!

A hands on all day workshop getting to know fungi. The delicious Ceps, Chanterelles etc., and learning key identification skills. The day includes visits to woods collecting specimens and after lunch, identification and a cook up of edibles

Find It, Pick It, Cook It, Eat It Workshop October 18th

A hands on all day workshop getting to know wild, safe food. Learn about the incredible edibles, the history and practice of foraging. We will cook up all the edibles we find. Includes a delicious 3 course organic lunch. This is the season for fungi, berries, fruits and nuts and we will spend time in the woods and fields.

  • 11 October: Mushroom Foraging with Jonathan Spazzi
    Learn how to identify, find and cook wild mushrooms; includes a talk and foraging walk through local woods
  • 18 October: Natural Cosmetics with Vivienne Campbell
    Natural cosmetics are easy and enjoyable to make when you know how. Items such as lip balm, moisturisers, bath bombs and face scrubs can easily be made at home in your own kitchen. This practical course will show you how. Come along and pamper yourself and learn how to make gorgeous, natural products for yourself and loved ones!
  • 08 November: Seaweed Harvesting and Cooking with John Fitzgerald
    Learn how identify, sustainably harvest and cook seaweed; includes a talk, 10 course taster lunch, seashore foraging trip, seaweed bath pack and seaweed garden fertiliser!

wild mushroom huntsLearn all about wild mushrooms in the beautiful woods of the Blackstairs with Mary White of Blackstairs Ecotrails
Qualified experts will show you where mushrooms grow, why they grow there and to distinguish the edible from the inedible. We will meet at 10 .30 am.in Killedmond for hot scones , tea and coffee.
We will have a short presentation, then off into the Blackstairs .
After our wild mushroom hunt we will come back to Killedmond for an organic lunch followed by identification of specimens and a cook-up of fungi we have found. BOOKING ESSENTIAL.
