Linda & Roz are inviting you on a Wild Food Foraging Adventure on Sunday 23rd April in Cloneen, Clareen, Birr , Co Offaly.
Sunday 23rd April 2023:
10.00am: Meet at Cloneen, Clareen, Birr, County Offaly, Eire, R42 CK72
10.30am – 1pm: Introductory talk followed by wild food foraging walk with Mary Bulfin aka Wild Food Mary.
Meet Wild Food Mary – “The benefits of collecting and eating wild food are many. Foraged food is healthy, tastes fantastic, and is a joy to collect! If done correctly it is also ecologically sustainable and is an interactive and immersive experience. With a background in science, cookery, and natural medicine, foraging has been part of my life since I started accompanying my granny on woodland strolls as a child.
You will meet other wild food enthusiasts from different walks of life. In the morning we all gather at 10am, aiming to make a start at 10:20 after meeting each other over a cuppa. Then I will lead the group on a forage, first within the grounds and then extending into surrounding woodlands, hedgerows and anywhere else we can discover hidden treasures. Once you see just how much is to be found, be sure you will have the foraging bug and those primal instincts will kick in! You’ll then be surprised, if not astonished, at just how much food is growing all around you and your new found interest in foraging.
Foraged food is healthy, tastes fantastic, and is a joy to collect! If done correctly it is also ecologically sustainable and is an interactive and
immersive experience. When something grows in a natural environment – without being artificially fertilized, watered and weeded – it has to battle for its place in an ecosystem and thus usually produces more micronutrients than farmed produce. It is typically more potent, restorative and in some cases medicinal.
When I eat something that I picked and preserved months earlier, the memory of that day comes rushing back with the taste. Knowing that it is organic, healthy and natural warms my heart and fills me with vitality.”
1pm – 2.30pm Wild Food Mary will prepare a tasty lunch incorporating foraged foods and other natural and organic ingredients and dishes provided to compliment the season.
What to Bring
Notebook, phone & water bottle.
Sturdy footwear, preferably waterproof and suitable clothing for rambling about the grounds and woods.
These forages are always very popular so we do advise early booking 🙂

Join EcoActiveSocial for a fun day out with the wonderful Marie Power (aka: The Sea Gardener) for seaweed foraging.
This event is ideal for anyone interested in edible wild food and sustainable foraging

Our last events in May & September were a great success with everyone enjoying the day – wellies are better than runners, waterproof hiking boots or crocs are best.

Date: Saturday May 6th 2023
Meet Time: Noon (Exact Time TBC Closer To Date)
Location Baginbun Strand, Co Waterford
Planning to make a weekend of it? Local accommodation options include Baginbun Lodge with rooms from €75 per person sharing (room only). Contact Jane to book at info@baginbunlodge.ie

“Foraging for food from the wild is fun, enjoyable and healthy. Whether it’s a family outing in the countryside – or on the seashore – or as part of a wild survival adventure, foraging connects us to the source of our food and to the rest of the natural world. It opens up new taste experiences and can satisfy a need for exploration and experimentation. It can do lots of good things, not least, developing skills in self-sufficiency.” ~ Marie Power

- Depending on the weather we also suggest bringing appropriate outdoor clothing such as a light anorak and a jumper.
- No harm to bring spare socks and shoes just in case your feet get wet!
